Maxwell Stephen Emerson, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, died tragically on July 5, 2023.  He was shot and killed in a random robbery in DC where he was attending a teacher institute at the Library of Congress. He was only 25 years old. Max’s untimely departure left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was born on February 17, 1998, in Lexington, Kentucky. Max lived in Cynthiana, KY briefly before moving to Oldham County with his family, where he grew up and attended Oldham County High School. He graduated in 2016, leaving behind a legacy as an accomplished student and athlete. It was during his time in elementary school that Max discovered his passion for wrestling (although his grandfather thinks he and Brady (Max's twin) were wrestling when they came out of the womb), a sport that would become an integral part of his life.

Throughout his high school and college journey, Max's dedication to wrestling remained unwavering. In high school he excelled as a wrestler, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. Max's accomplishments included being a State Champion wrestler achieving an undefeated season (37-0) and was named the Courier Journal’s Kentuckiana Wrestler of the Year. After high school, Max pursued higher education at the University of the Cumberlands. Competing at the University of the Cumberlands on scholarship, he was also a 2-time national qualifier for the NAIA and was recognized as an Academic All-American.

Max's love for wrestling extended beyond his own personal achievements. He embraced the opportunity to share his knowledge and passion with others. He became a teacher at Oldham County High School, where he inspired countless students with his enthusiasm for education and his unwavering support for their success. Max’s dedication to wrestling continued as he served as an Assistant Wrestling Coach at his alma mater. The OCHS Wrestling Room was his second home. Max had a genuine love for his athletes, students, colleagues, and family, and he cherished the time spent with them. He will be remembered as a champion for the underdog and someone who brought joy and encouragement to all those around him.

Max had many interests and hobbies outside of wrestling and education. Max was known for his unwavering support of the University of Kentucky. Although his Cats offered many disappointments over the years, his loyalty and devotion never wavered. He was an avid WWE superfan and had a passion for movies and could often be found at the theater, indulging in the latest Marvel Universe releases, especially Captain America. Additionally, he had a flair for cooking and took pleasure in experimenting with new recipes and mastering the art of grilling.

Max will forever be remembered as a talented wrestler, an inspirational educator, a devoted son and brother, a doting uncle, and a cherished friend. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Max's passion for life, his commitment to others, and his unwavering love will never be forgotten. His favorite quote that he lived by was, "Champions Find a Way."  That is our duty now--to find a way to carry Max's torch so that he lives on in the lives of others.
